Church Building Set On Fire
(June 27, 2009)

Dear Brethren,

Please share this message with our Christian family in your community.  Last Saturday evening (June 27, 2009) someone tried to burn down our church building.  At about 7:15 p.m. I was contacted by the Cassia County Sheriff's Office that our church building was on fire.  I alerted some of our members and we all arrived to see the Fire Department working to put out the fire.  Someone had created the fire within one foot of the gas meter to our church building.  If the gas meter would have exploded we would not have a church building left.  The fire burned our shrubs, air conditioner, broke four windows and traveled up the side of the building and burned the roof above our church office.  The auditorium and the basement were only affected by smoke.

There was no evidence of a fireworks or cigarettes at the scene, and the Police asked the neighbors if they saw anyone at the church building on Saturday evening.  Some older teens were seen playing basketball, but I don't believe that our neighborhood children would have done this.

The Fire Chief ruled the cause of fire to be suspicious and undetermined.  We believe that it was arson.  The cost for repairs is unknown at this time.  An insurance adjuster will be assessing those costs by July 6, 2009.  The roof above our church office will need to be replaced.  The roof has old cedar shingles and should all be replaced.  We cannot afford to replace the entire roof.  We would like to replace the entire roof with metal roofing materials since a metal roof is less expensive than cedar singles.  This will make our building safer and more energy efficient.  The insurance company will only replace the portion of the roof that burned.  One of our neighbors who is a Mormon donated $100.00 to our church on the day of the fire.

God is good and we were able to worship Him last Sunday (June 28, 2009) in our building.  The smell of smoke was tolerable, but we will need to have the carpet cleaned and the walls washed or painted.  We will need to find a place of worship and bible study once the repairs begin.  Please remember us in your prayers.

If you are able and desire to assist us in our needs, you may send your donation to:
